Tehran, Aug 24 – A religious court in Tehran sentenced two men to execution, bringing to more than 110 the number of people hanged since January 2004. Thet two were identified only by their first names as Mohammad and Fereidoon.

Dozens have been hanged in recent days in Iran, as the country goes through another spate of politically-motivated executions. The hangings have been carried in public to terrorize the people and stem the rising anti-government demonstrations and strikes across the country.

On 22 August Iran Daily reported the execution of a man in Tuti Square in the town of Salmas in West Azerbaijan Province. It reported the same day the sentencing to death of a man named Majid in Tehran.

On 21 August Jomhouri Islami daily wrote that three men, Gholamreza A., Mohammad D. and Hamid A., were hanged in the Haft Baq Square in Kerman, southern Iran.
