London, 22 May - At the US-Islamic summit, President Trump made it very clear that Iran is the main loser. In a new fight against extremism, he rejected the idea that it is a fight against religions.

He and Saudi King Salman said that the US is going to work with the Muslim world in an effort to put an end to extremism and terrorism.

The Saudi King also reiterated that Islam always has been, and still is, “a religion of tolerance and peace”. He said Iran is at the centre of the conflict and it is their responsibility, and that of the whole world, to “fight the forces of evil and extremism wherever they are”.

London, 3 May - It is reported that President Trump will travel to Riyadh later this month and will meet with the six leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. There are widely disparate views on the Iranian threat to stability in the Middle East and how to resolve the conflict in Yemen. It is difficult to coordinate on a policy regarding Iran without opening up conflict, because of these divergent views, analysts suggest. Efforts thus far focus on improving regional defense capabilities and US-GCC security cooperation. The Trump administration has indicated it will provide advanced munitions as well as logistics and intelligence support to assist the Saudi-led coalition fight the pro-Iranian Houthi insurgency in Yemen.

London, 17 May - Iran is the second biggest nation in the middle east in terms of the economy, according to the Daily Mail. The only country ahead of it is its Sunni rival Saudi Arabia. The reason for this supposed wealth? Oil and Sanctions Relief.

The Iranian economy was revived by the lifting of international sanctions against it, when the 2015 nuclear deal was put into place. Then, a recent deal between Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Iran allowed Iran to up its oil production significantly.

However, despite these boosts, the economy is still not working for anyone outside the elite.

London, 30 Apr - After the 1979 revolution, Iran became a nation militarily divided. It’s leaders were suspicious of the armed forces because of their allegiance to the shah, so the revolutionaries formed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG).

Although the IRCG is 55 years younger than the Iranian army, the army became subservient to the IRCG, who receive a greater amount of funding and the best military hardware.

According to an article by Track Persia, a Platform run by analysts dedicated to researching the Middle East, this may all soon change. Track Persia reports that the news from Tehran is that the army is about to shed its long-held defensive posture.
