London, 28 Aug - Political prisoners on hunger strike over conditions at Iran’s notorious Gohardasht prison are shaming the so-called moderates in the Iranian Regime according to one political scientist.

Dr. Majid Rafizadeh wrote an op-ed for Arab News in which he addressed that President.

Hassan Rouhani, often lauded as a moderate in the West, is once again breaking his election promises of protecting and promoting human rights.

London, 30 Aug - A few days before Hassan Rouhani’s inauguration of his second term as president,
Prison guards forcibly transferred 50 inmates to a separate hall without allowing them to take their personal possessions, including their medicine. It’s reported that during this process, several prisoners who protested were beaten and injured.

On July 30, the special guards of Gohardasht Prison, west of Tehran, also known as Raja’i Shahr, raided a ward where political prisoners, prisoners of conscience, human rights defenders, trade unionists, journalists, and students were kept. They were transferred to Hall 10, a high-security section, where surveillance cameras and listening devices are installed everywhere, including the bathrooms, in an attempt to keep the prisoners under strict control. Hall 10 lacks minimum facilities, including beds and hygienic fitments, and its windows are sealed, so there is little ventilation.

London, 27 Aug - The families of Rajaeeshahr political prisoners, currently on hunger strike have been harshly, offensively treated by security guards in Iranian regime’s prosecutor’s office, the reports say.

The event took place on Wednesday August 23, when the families of Rajaeeshar’s prisoners of conscience referred to regime’s prosecutor office three weeks after the inmates began a continued hunger strike to realize their basic rights inside prison.

The families were going to hand over a letter to regime’s Prisons Organization describing prison officials’ unlawful conduct towards inmates, but the security guards in prosecutor office treated the families harshly and offensively.

London, 29 Aug - The second term of Iranian President Hasan Rouhani, has only just begun, and his “moderate” presidency is already being challenged.

More than 20 Iranian political prisoners at Gohardasht prison, west of Tehran, were forcibly transferred to accommodations where conditions are described as “unbearable”. Their response was to go on a hunger strike, which has lasted for a month, now. Political prisoners at other jails have voiced their support, and many have joined the protest action. They are concerned, as it’s been reported that the striking prisoners at Gohardasht are being denied medical care by authorities.

Iran Focus

London, 23 Aug - At least five political prisoners in Iran have been transferred to the prison medical clinic after going on hunger strike to protest the inhumane treatment they have received at a maximum-security prison in Karaj, Alborz province, according to Amnesty International.

At least 17 of the 53 political prisoners who were transferred to the new area of Raja’i Shahr prison in July are currently on hunger strike over the “suffocating” conditions there.

This includes Reza Shahabi, a human rights activist and trade unionist who joined the strike on August 16, after being transferred to the same section.
