Tehran, Oct. 23 - A member of the welfare society of the department of education in the Iranian province of Khorrasan (northeastern Iran) has reportedly ‘disappeared’ after being summoned to court.

The director of the Khorrasan’s welfare society announced that “Saeid Hashem Khastar was summoned to court without any explanation as to what he was accused of”.

He added that Khastar was summoned repeatedly by the Ministry of Intelligence and Security following a general meeting of the entire country’s welfare society in Rasht (northern Iran). “They didn’t have any warrant to arrest him”, he said.

He accused Khorrasan’s department of education of not following up the matter.

Speaking with Iran’s state-run news agency, Sedigheh Maleki, Khastar’s wife, said that her husband was interviewed a number of times following the meeting in Rasht and finally taken to court. There, she said, despite no official charges having been stated, the Mashhad court ordered that he should remain in jail until due evidence was found to charge him with.

Maleki said that she has no information about his exact whereabouts at present.
