Tehran, Iran, Feb. 13 – At least 17 people were killed or injured on Tuesday when a bus slipped off a stretch of road in central Iran, state media reported.

The accident occurred in the early hours of the day in Markazi Province on the road from Arak to Khomein, the government-owned news agency Fars said.

Iran's highways are considered to be among the most dangerous in the world, with some 100,000 road-accident deaths occurring in the last five years, the equivalent of three deaths an hour.
