Iran's Supreme Leader appoints new army chief |

Iran Focus Tehran, Iran, Aug. 26 - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday appointed Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan as the new commander of the Islamic Republic's regular army ground forces.
Pourdastan takes over the position from Brigadier General Mohammad-Hassan Dadras. Dadras was simultaniously appointed as the deputy coordinator of Iran’s armed forces, replacing Brigadier General Abdul-Rahim Moussavi. Also, Moussavi was appointed as deputy commander of the regular army ground forces. Iran has a dual military system with a regular armed forces as well as the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Both have their own army, navy, and air force and report directly to Supreme Leader Khamenei. |
