Tehran, Iran, Apr. 18 – Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived on Tuesday in Damascus, where he met and held talks with his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moallem, state media reported on Wednesday.

The talks by Mottaki and al-Moallem focused on the latest regional developments, including the state of affairs in Iraq, Lebanon, and Palestine.

The Iranian envoy was scheduled to meet Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad as well.

Mottaki told reporters that Tehran was still considering whether or not he would attend an upcoming conference of Iraq’s neighbours in the Egyptian resort of Sharm al-Sheikh. The conference’s theme is security in Iraq.

Regional allies Iran and Syria are both accused by the United States of being state sponsors of terrorism.
