The Iranian authorities have sealed shut 147 shops and arrested three people in several provinces across the country for “not following Sharia law” during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Akhevan Akbari, the head of the Medical Sciences University in Ardebil, and Dr. Hassan Adeli, the head of Qom Medical Sciences University, were both forced out of their jobs by the Minister of Health, Saied Namaki after they made comments that contradicted the official version of events.

The US House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution, entitled “Supporting the rights of the people of Iran to free expression, condemning the Iranian authorities for their crackdown on legitimate protests, and for other purposes”, on Tuesday.
