Iran’s court of appeal condemned 18 civil right activists to prison. According to these sentences, 16 of these activist are each condemned to 91 days of suspended imprisonment for three years. Two other activists were sentenced to 91 days of imprisonment after they didn't object to the verdict. All of them were arrested in November 2015 for peacefully gathering in front of Tehran's Evin prison, and were charged with civil disobedience. They were released on parole.

Iran has once again dismissed calls to release a British aid-worker imprisoned on vague spying charges, even though UK Foreign Office minister Andrew Murrison personally delivered the request.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, said Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe would have to serve her full sentence and denounced the hunger strike by her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, outside the UK’s Iranian embassy as “blackmail”.

Iranian political prisoner Soheil Arabi has released an open letter from jail about his hunger strike titled: “Boycotting the state from inside the prison.”

Arabi is a social activist who has been in prison under a seven-year sentence since 2013 and is currently in the prison of Greater Tehran (Fashafouyeh). In his letter, published on June 27, 2019, Arabi described his hunger strike as a “new move and a sanction” against the regime.

The Iranian government is systematically violating the international bans on torture and other ill-treatment with its targeting of the families of the victims of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners, said Amnesty International on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

Thirty-one years after Iranian authorities secretly forcibly disappeared and executed 30,000 political dissidents, dumping their bodies in unmarked mass graves, the authorities are continuing to torment relatives by not revealing when, how, or why their loved ones were killed and where their remains are buried. The relatives who have fought to find the truth have only been subjected to threats, harassment, intimidation and attacks.

On June 10, two inmates in the notorious Greater Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh) stabbed Iranian political prisoner Alireza Shir-Mohammad-Ali to death.

Shir-Mohammad-Ali had been arrested and detained in July 2018 and was sentenced to eight years in prison following an unfair trial in the regime's preliminary court in which he was convicted on charges of “insulting Islamic sanctities,” "insulting the supreme leader” and "spreading propaganda against the system.”

A 21-year-old political prisoner was stabbed to death in the notorious Greater Tehran Penitentiary by two inmates who were agents of the authorities on Monday, June 10.

Alireza Shir-Mohammad-Ali, from Naziabad, south Tehran, was stabbed at least 40 times by Hamidreza Shojazadeh, in prison and on death row for murder, and Mohammadreza Khalilzadeh, convicted on drug-related charges, despite the fact that violent criminals are supposed to be kept on separate wards to prisoners of conscience.
