The Caspian Fisheries Industry in Iran

Iran Focus

London, 6 Mar - The fishing industry is the latest indicator of widespread and systematic corruption in Iran, with local anglers losing their livelihoods after the Government granted dubious licenses to Chinese fishing boats engaged in deep-sea trawling.

The policy, which would result in increased unemployment and poverty, gathered intense criticism when it became public two years ago, but the relevant government authorities have failed to address the grievances.

Poor people in iran

By Pooya Stone

A high-ranking Iranian cleric has claimed that the Iranian people are overweight and should eat less, at a time when 80% of Iranians live in poverty and many are forced to search through the bins for scraps of food.

These comments from Naser Makarem Shirazi, a so-called Shia Marja, were no doubt deliberately designed to detract from the disastrous economic situation faced by ordinary Iranians.

Hundreds of Thousands of Afghans Leave Iran

Iran Focus

London, 9 Jan - It has been reported that the number of Afghans that have been forced to leave Iran has dramatically increased over the past year. Figures show that around 775,000 Afghans left last year alone.

One of the main factors in this is the sanctions that were reimposed by the United States and the resolve of the Trump administration to addressing the Iran threat.

Water crisis In Iran

Iran Focus

London, 29 Jan - Four in five Iranians will experience problems accessing clean, safe, drinking water at some point in the next two years, according to the Iranian Parliament’s Research Centre, which will provoke mass unrest among the population as they struggle to survive.

This stark warning came from a report about the drought in Iran this summer, which caused what’s been described as Iran’s “worst” water shortage, with 46% of the country (roughly 37 million people) without easy access to drinking water.

Iranians Turning to Secularism, According to Top Cleric

Iran Focus

London, 3 Jan - One of Iran's top Shiite clerics has said that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is aware that Iranians are turning to secularism and evading religious teachings.

Ayatollah Mohammad Taqi Mesbah Yazdi, widely considered the spiritual father of Iran's hardliner conservatives, seemed pessimistic about the future of the Iranian Rulers in an interview with the hard-line weekly "9 Day", in late December. His comments contradicted Khamenei's insistence that Iranians, especially the young people, have been embracing Islamic teachings more in recent times.
