London, 20 Nov - The Iranian regime is known for its meddling in other countries in the Middle East. Its main aim is regional hegemony and it will stop at nothing to get it. One country in particular where Iran is extensively involved is Syria.

Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war, Iran has had some of its own military personnel there and it has funded, trained and armed numerous proxy groups and militias.

Iran’s involvement is particularly toxic because if it had not intervened, the civil war would have ended years ago. It has effectively fuelled the war. Syrian President Bashar al Assad has been propped up by Iran too.

London, 4 Oct - Lawmakers in Afghanistan have demanded that their government force the Iranian Regime to stop using Afghan refugees as militants in the Syrian Civil War.

Mohammad Asif Seddiqi, the deputy head of the Senate, said: “[The government] should seriously pursue this matter to compel Iran to not use Afghans as a tool and send them to war in other countries.”

The Iranian Regime has recruited thousands of Afghan refugees to fight on their behalf, to prop up the Bashar Assad dictatorship by promising that they and their families will receive citizenship, accommodation and money.

London, 29 Sep - Officials from the Trump administration have been saying for a long time that Iran is a huge issue when it comes to its Syria policy. They have said that it is essential that Iran is stopped from expanding its power, especially as the Islamic State falls.

Syrians agree with this, as do other nations such as Israel and Jordan.

However, questions are now being asked about whether it is too late to act on any intentions.

On Monday, Trump’s national security adviser H.R. McMaster spoke at the Institute for the Study of War and it became quite clear that the policy and the rhetoric were not exactly working together.

London, 2 Oct - Human Rights Watch revealed that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has been recruiting Afghan immigrant children living in Iran to fight in the Syrian Civil War on the side of Bashar Assad.

Afghan children, some as young as 14, are fighting in the Fatemiyoun division (an Afghan armed group supported by Iran). Not only is this morally reprehensible but, under internal law, recruiting anyone under 15 to fight in a conflict is a war crime.

It also contravenes the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict, which Iran has signed up to, which states that the minimum age for participation in armed conflict is 18.

London, 16 Sep - Supreme Leader Khamenei’s representative said earlier in the week that it is essential to Iran for the Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad to remain in power.

Earlier this year the Supreme Leader had said that if the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) was not in Syria, it would be fighting in Iranian cities.

A few days ago, Assad thanked and praised “Iman” Khamenei, describing him as the Supreme Leader of the Revolution. He praised the role of the Iranian regime in seizing more of the province of Deir-al-Zour and for killing Syrians.
