London, 9 Apr - On Friday 7th April, the first international marathon organised by Dutch businessman Sebastiaan Straten took place in Iran.

Before the race took place, Straten had said that he was disappointed that female runners were required, according to an Iranian government official, to compete in a separate race at a stadium away from the male runners. Majid Keyhani who is in charge of the country’s track and field federation announced during this rule earlier in the week.

Straten said: “As an organiser, I did not accept that. Female runners had 10K route outside the stadium with same start and finish as male race.”

London, 6 Apr - An international marathon is due to take place in the Iranian capital tomorrow, but a top sports official in the country, Majid Keyhani, has said that women will not be allowed to run alongside the men – they will be forced to race in the Azadi sports centre. Nor is he able to confirm whether the 28 Americans who have registered will be allowed to participate in the race.

London, 13 Mar - The health of a British aid worker, detained in Iran on spurious national security charges, has gone downhill so fast that she lost a significant amount of weight, is suffering from hair loss and is practically unable to walk.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 38, a British-Iranian citizen, was arrested when she was trying to return to Britain with her daughter Gabriella after visiting family in Iran last April.

She was held for five months without charges before being tried for attempting to overthrow the Iranian Regime and sentenced to five years in Evin prison.

London, 8 Mar - It’s hardly surprising that the Iranian Regime is misogynist; after all, they oppress religious minorities, people of different races, the LGBT community and political opponents (who are generally the ones advocating for fair, secular laws).

What was surprising was to hear the so-called moderate, President Hassan Rouhani, speak about women’s rights in Iran like he was somehow making things better; maybe he thinks that he’s doing his part for feminism by torturing and executing female political prisoners as well as male ones?
