London, 13 Jan - The US is proposing to leave troops near the Iraqi and Jordanian border with Syria when they withdraw from the warzone, in order to stop Iranian entrenchment in the country, according to a draft paper presented to Turkish officials by US National Security Adviser John Bolton.

This news comes as an American official confirmed that the US has begun moving equipment out of Syria, which is the start of the withdrawal tweeted out by Donald Trump last month.

London, 12 Jan - At a keynote address in Cairo on Thursday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged Middle East nations to forge a common stand against Tehran, and pledged that the United States and its allies would chase all Iranian troops from Syria.

“It's time for old rivalries to end, for the sake of the greater good of the region,” Pompeo told attendees. He added that America “will use diplomacy and work with our partners to expel every last Iranian boot” from Syria and bolster efforts "to bring peace and stability to the long-suffering Syrian people.”

London, 24 Oct - Following his summit meeting in Helsinki with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this year, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Russia and the United States agree on the importance of expelling Iran from Syria. However, this may have been a slightly exaggerated claim because Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, has been talking extensively about Iran’s enduring presence in Syria as something that will not change in the immediate future.

London, 2 Jan - A senior Iranian official said on December 30 that Iran is ready to help with the reconstruction of Syria, according to the state-run Fars news agency.

The head of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce Gholamhossein Shafeie told the Chamber of Commerce that public officials in Iran and Syria are cooperating comprehensively over Syria’s future development, with Iran’s private sector ready to supply basic goods to the Syrian people.

London, 20 Oct - Iran-backed Hezbollah gained approval with the non-Shiite population of Lebanon through confrontation with Israel, but Hezbollah has been involved in the Syrian war since it began. Its participation has affected Lebanese sympathies.

Several Lebanese politicians and other famous people have condemned Hezbollah for its fight against the Syrian people. However, if Assad fails in Syria, Hezbollah will be cut off from Iran’s weapon supplies.

Hezbollah has established itself in Lebanon’s domestic and foreign policy. Hezbollah, along with the Iranian forces, is also involved in the development and training of militarized groups, consisting mostly of Shiites and Alawites. Assad’s government uses them mainly for security and patrolling.
