London, 7 May - Iran has been uncannily silent in the aftermath of the April 29 attacks on two Syrian military bases that contained Iranian and allied Shia militia forces, that are suspected to have been carried out by Israel.

The state-controlled media in Iran played down the incident, which provides an interesting insight into the conflict between Iran and Israel: Iran is fine with engaging the Jewish state in low-intensity conflicts and using its proxy Hezbollah against it, but it does not want an all-out war with Israel. Considering how often Iran calls for the destruction of Israel, this is surprising, until you remember that Iran is not equipped for all-out war, and would certainly lose.

London, 26 Apr - Since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, Iran has been present in the country with an influence that is ever-increasing. The elections that are due to take place next month will be the perfect opportunity for Iraq to limit Iran’s influence.

On May12th, the parliamentary and local elections will take place and the government of Iraq has been taking measures to move towards reconciliation with its neighbours.

London, 18 Apr - Faced with yet another cowardly chemical weapons attack, the United States, France and Great Britain vowed to take action. And they did so in the form of a US-led airstrike that caused significant damage to Syrian military sites.

The reaction from this Western alliance sends a big message, not just to Syrian President Bashar al Assad, but also to Iran and Russia. It is a clear signal that the days of appeasement led by former President Barack Obama are over.

London, 19 Apr - Since United States President Donald Trump took office, he has maintained harsh rhetoric against Iran. His actions have been firm and he is taking steps to address Iran’s belligerence. Trump also wants to strengthen the 2015 nuclear deal and has warned the other signatories of the agreement that he will not keep the United States in the deal if he is not satisfied that it is effective enough.

London, 17 Apr - On Sunday, the Arab League held its 29th summit in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. This is a significant choice because it is the closest city geographically to Iran and the Iranian issue was a key topic of discussion and condemnation at the meeting of 17 Arab countries.

The most vocal critic of Iran at the Summit was Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, the sponsor of the meeting, who called for a “strong international stance to confront Iran’s behaviour in the region,” and warned against the “threat” posed by Iran’s malign behaviour.
