TEHRAN, Iran – Iranian state television said Wednesday that an explosion near Deilam may have been caused by a fuel tank accidentally dropping from an Iranian airplane in the region.
The state-run television provided few details, but said local officials had told it that may have been the cause of the unidentified explosion.
A spokesman for Iran’s Interior Ministry said Wednesday that he could not confirm earlier television reports that there had been an explosion in the area, nor confirm the shooting-off of anti-aircraft fire in the region, which is about 100 kilometers north of the Bushar nuclear facility.
“We cannot confirm the reports at this point. We are checking,” said the Interior Ministry spokesman, Jahanbakhsh Khanjani.
Two residents of the Deilam area contacted by The Associated Press said they had not heard any explosions in the area.
