The repressed population of Iran has found a platform — social media — where their outrage has a voice and they can push back against their tyrannical Mullahs.

The Iranian diaspora has been rallying forces on Twitter and Facebook. A series of demonstrations in Europe and the United States and the upcoming “Free Iran” rally is being organized by the Iranian Opposition.

Several years ago, Iran rolled out its Qaher F-313 ‘stealth fighter’ in front of then President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Within hours it was met with near universal derision from defense and aerospace experts around the world.

While almost everyone outside Iran saw the project for the farce that it was, Tehran insisted that the project was real and that it was already flying. Further, the Iranian government insisted that the bizarre-looking aircraft—which was allegedly superior to the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter—would become operational in the very near future. But since then the project has disappeared. So, whatever happened to Iran’s impressive plans for the Qaher F-313 stealth fighter?

34-year-old Abdullah Ghasempour was arrested on May 21st, 2018 for setting fire to a Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Basij base, filming the event, and sending it to the MEK media. On Sunday, the notorious judge, Mohammad Moghiseh, sentenced Ghasempour at branch 28 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, to death, plus eight years in prison, on charges of “waging war on God”, “assembly and collusion,” and “membership in the MEK.”

A network of fake social media accounts imitated political candidates and journalists to spread messages in support of Iran and against U.S. President Donald Trump around the 2018 congressional elections, cybersecurity firm FireEye said on Tuesday. Some of those who were impersonated included Republican political candidates who contested House races, the firm said.

Since the U.S. administration left the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action a year ago, the Iranian leaders have been under significant pressure.

In a short period of time, the ruling mullahs have seen a significant loss in revenues, since the US has imposed sanctions on the Iran’s energy and financial sectors. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Iran’s oil exports may this month plunge to the lowest level in decades.

The head of the Iran’s Passive Defense Organization has said that the country would block its citizens’ access to social media if war were to break out with the U.S.

Brigadier-General Gholamreza Jalali of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a speech on Sunday, may 26th, that the U.S. “uses social media for media and psychological operations to influence Iranians’ minds.”

Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated in recent weeks. Now, U.S. regional ally Saudi Arabia is being dragged into the middle of it by Iran after the ruling theocracy and its proxies decided to carry out armed drone attacks on Saudi oil-pumping stations.

Iranian officials have made no secret of the fact that they are attempting to subvert the world economy and the attacks on the Saudi oil pumping stations should be taken for the threat to global stability that they are.

It is reported that U.S. plans to dispatch thousands of troops to Middle East, the Pentagon will brief Trump administration officials on a plan to increase America’s troop presence in the region. It’s unclear exactly how many service members might be deployed, but reports put the number somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000. Of course, they won’t go anywhere unless President Donald Trump approves the plan, a still unclear outcome.

It’s unsurprising that the Iranian people ranked fifth for stress in 2018 — ahead of Albania, Tanzania, Philippines, and Greece, respectively. Iran is facing a critical economic crisis. High inflation and unemployment, along with the pressure of social restrictions, like a strict dress code, as well as a lack of freedom in general affects their view of their lives.

The US announced last week that sanctions waivers for countries that import Iranian oil would be allowed to expire on May 2, meaning that any country buying Iranian oil after Thursday would be subject to US penalties and could lose access to US financial markets.

This is all part of the US’s plan to bring Iran’s oil exports to zero.
