In the run-up to the Warsaw Conference on international policy toward the Middle East, which is expected to focus very strongly on the various ways that the Iranian Regime destabilises the region, the mullahs have ramped up their disinformation campaign against their opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

Why is the Iranian Regime doing this?

London, 7 Feb - In January, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that Iran had conducted a satellite launch despite being urged not to by the United States. The rocket containing the Payam satellite did not succeed in its mission because, according to the country’s Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, it did not gather enough speed.

Mike Pompeo said at the time that Iran is shamelessly disregarding the UN Security Resolution that bans it from participating in activities related to ballistic missiles that are capable of delivering a nuclear weapon.

Imran Khan was elected to be the Prime Minister of Pakistan last July. Before being elected, many were surprised at his pro-Iran rhetoric given that the country has a history of good relations with the countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

He founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in 1996 and it supported the 2015 Iran nuclear deal which was seen as a way of enabling and allowing Iran’s destabilisation of the Middle East. Furthermore, Khan and his party had a big role in Pakistan’s shunning of the Saudi-led coalition to act in Yemen. Khan said at the time that his country was taking heed of past experiences and ensuring that his country is not drawn into another war.

In 1979, the anti-monarchical revolution by the Iranian people was usurped by the theocratic regime that still holds power in Iran today. But how long can this regime remain in power before the mullahs, like the Shah, are deposed?

Currently, Iran is facing several crises on domestic and international levels that are limiting the mullahs’ power. First, increased economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation from the US are reducing the flow of money and political legitimacy that Iran relies on to expand its influence across other countries in the Middle East. Second, and more importantly, the Iranian people’s uprising, which began in December 2017 and continues despite a violent crackdown, is showing the world that the mullahs and their malign behaviour are not supported by the Iranian people, thus increasing the countries that wish to join the US in sanctioning and isolating the regime.

The first Supreme Leader of Iran since the 1979 revolution - Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini – played a big role in the overthrow of the Shah. In fact, you could say that he engineered the move and he used the media to get the biggest audience possible.

He called on the people of Iran to strike. Not just specific workers, but workers across the whole spectrum. And this created mass opposition among society. Strikes started out small and rapidly grew, spreading across the whole country. And the same with riots. He encouraged other sectors of society – students, for example - to take to the streets in support of the working class. Khomeini succeeded in what he set out to do and the country’s oil production dropped dramatically only a few days into the action.

London, 30 Jan - Iran is openly furious about an international conference on peace in the Middle East set to take place in Poland next month, with officials regarding it as a hostile act and even summoning a Polish diplomat to the Foreign Ministry in order to protest it.

Still many Iranian officials and heads of Friday prayers have attempted to downplay the importance of the conference, which Iran has not been invited to, but what is clear from their comments is the underlying fear that this conference could result in a coalition against the regime’s terrorism and regional meddling.

London, 15 Jan - The Trump administration has recently expressed growing alarm about Iran’s ballistic missile programme, which they believe is the ‘largest in the Middle East’, advising that it poses a threat to US interests and allies in the region.

One of the biggest concerns is Iran’s increasingly sophisticated medium-range ballistic programme, with the Khorramshahr missile as its star player, which places a large part of Europe, including some US military bases there, within Iran’s reach.
