ImageTehran (dpa) – The conservatives lead in the second round of Iran's parliamentary elections and are likely to expand their absolute majority in the country's legislative body, state media reported Saturday.

Due to low voter turnout of around 25 per cent, the final elections results are expected to be announced sooner than Sunday.

The conservatives had secured 60 per cent of the 290 seats in the first round of elections on March 14.

Conservatives also dominate the politically important Tehran constituency, where only one of the 30 seats is expected to go to labour party leader Ali-Reza Mahjoub.
