L'AQUILA, Italy (AFP) — US President Barack Obama expressed solidarity with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown over the "unacceptable" jailing by Iran of a British embassy employee, their governments said Thursday.
The two leaders met for bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Group of Eight summit in L'Aquila, Italy.
"President Obama and Prime Minister Brown have had good discussions on the full range of global issues," a joint statement said.
The two leaders had agreed "on the importance of completing urgently the economic and financial reforms agreed at the G20 Summit in London.
"The President expressed solidarity on Iran, where both leaders were clear that the detention of embassy staff by the Iranian authorities was unacceptable," said the statement.
One of several British embassy employees arrested in Iran in the wake of post-election demonstrations is still being held.
