Iran vows revenge over assassination of nuclear scientist

ImageTehran, Jan. 18 – Iran's Interior Minister vowed on Monday that Tehran would take revenge on Israel and the United States for the killing of a nuclear scientist last week.
 
"Of course, we will certainly take the revenge of this beloved brother on the Zionist [Israeli] elements. We will not easily let them escape the Islamic Republic of Iran's grip of justice", Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar was quoted as saying by the state-run Fars news agency.
 
The official IRNA news agency quoted Mohammad-Najjar as saying, "Such a blind act, created by Mossad, the CIA and enemies of the Islamic Republic, shows their weakness".
 
The minister’s comments come as Iran's hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blamed Israel for the killing of Masoud Ali Mohammadi. The 50 year old lecturer at Tehran University was killed by a booby-trapped motorbike explosion outside his home in northern Tehran last Tuesday.
 
There has been claim and counterclaim between the Iranian authorities and the Iranian opposition movement over his death. A number of people who knew Mohammadi claim that he was supportive of the Iranian opposition movement which had been involved in widespread protests in recent months. Allegations are that he was killed by officials of the Iranian regime for this involvement in opposition affairs.
