London, Feb. 17 – Sane’ Zhaleh, one of two Iranians killed during anti-government protests on Monday, was not a member of the paramilitary Bassij force as the authorities have claimed, his brother has revealed.
Qaneh Zhaleh told Voice of America on Wednesday that his brother Sane’ was a supporter of the political opposition movement.
He said his cousin was an agent of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and had gone to their home earlier in the week and taken a photograph of Sane’. He then used it to produce a bogus Bassij identity card for Sane’. Members of the pro-government Bassij militia held a ceremony for Sane’ on Wednesday. Authorities prevented students supporting the opposition movement from holding their own ceremony for Sane’.
Qaneh insisted that his brother Sane’ was never a member of the Bassij.
