Tehran, Jun. 13 – Iran has successfully test-fired a new domestically-produced air defence system, a top Iranian air force commander said.
Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli, who heads the Khatam-ol-Anbia Air Base, said Iran had succeeded in testing the Mersad air defence system using Shahin missiles and that they were now part of the country’s air defence unit. His remarks were carried Monday by the state-run news agency Fars.
Iran says its Shahin ground-to-air missile is able to hit enemy jets and helicopters at supersonic speeds and that the Mersad air defence system is equipped with sophisticated radar signal processing technology, an advanced launcher, and electronic targeting and guidance systems.
