Tehran, Iran, Jun. 21 – Iranian Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani on Monday demanded that all international forces leave Afghanistan.

Larijani said in a meeting with Afghan Parliament Vice-Speaker Ahmad Behzad that the removal of all foreign forces from Afghanistan was the only way the country’s security could be restored, the state-run news agency Fars reported on Tuesday.

“The withdrawal of alien forces from Afghanistan and leaving the country’s security affairs and reconstruction to the Afghan people is the most significant way of returning security and tranquillity to Afghanistan”, Larijani said at the meeting.

US President Barack Obama is expected on Wednesday to announce a troop reduction in Afghanistan that Pentagon and other administration officials say is expected to bring home about 10,000 personnel by the end of the year, according to US media.

There are currently about 100,000 US troops in Afghanistan.
