Tehran, Iran, Jun. 29 – Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Developments announced that the construction phase of a railway connecting Iran to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan will be completed by early 2012.
Ali Nikzad on Tuesday said: “The railroad will be completed by the end of the (Iranian) year (March 2012) and Iran will be connected to Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and China”. His remarks were carried on Wednesday by the state-run news agency Fars.
The total route of the railway is 1,000 kilometres, of which 90km would be in Iran, 700 km in Turkmenistan and 210 km in Kazakhstan.
Iranian companies will be helping to build 265 km of the railroad in Turkmenistan, according to Nikzad. He added that this section would be completed by the end of 2011.
