ISTANBUL (AP) — U.S. officials say Turkey’s prime minister is updating U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton about his recent nuclear talks with Iran.
The meeting comes a day after Clinton said the next round of nuclear negotiations between world powers and Tehran would take place in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 13. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently went to Iran on a two-day state visit.
Officials say Erdogan will give Clinton his take on where Iran stands. They spoke on condition of anonymity before the meeting.
The U.S. NATO ally has built close economic ties with Iran and has tried to act as a go-between on the disputed nuclear program.
Washington and its allies see Iran trying to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran says its program is peaceful.
