Free Iran Gathering July 13, 2019

The 2020 Free Iran Global Summit, organized by the Iranian Resistance, was viewed widely inside Iran on July 17 and had the support of people across the country.

The conference, held online because of the coronavirus pandemic, linked over 30,000 terminals in 102 countries across the world, including Iran where internet access is sparse and was described as  “an exciting technological achievement” by some of the over 1,000 politicians, activists, and dignitaries who attended.

Iranians, both in Iran and around the world, sent videos of them holding signs and messages through social media, where they made clear their support for the  National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), its President-elect Maryam Rajavi, and it’s member group, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Their messages included:

  • “Iran will be free”
  • “We are with you at the Free Iran gathering”
  • “We support the Free Iran gathering 2020”
  • “Iran, Maryam, Freedom”
  • “Dear Maryam, we are with you.”
  • “I will always be with Maryam Rajavi and the MEK in Ashraf 3 and I support you.”
  • “Dear Maryam, you are the hope of our people”
  • “Down with [Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei, hail to Rajavi, long live Iran”
  • “We announce our solidarity with the Free Iran gathering and the MEK in Ashraf 3 [the Albanian home of the Resistance].”

These messages, along with the Iranian people’s nationwide uprisings in recent years highlights this fact that Iranians want to overthrow the regime.

Many of the messages were part of the  Iranian Resistance Units’ organized domestic anti-regime activities, which took place in the cities of Ahvaz, Abadan, Bandar Abbas, Bandar Anzali, Babol, Behbahan, Dezful, Gorgan, Hashtgerd, Isfahan, Khorramshahr, Khorasan, Khuzestan, Khoy, Karaj, Lorestan, Mashhad, Mazandaran, Qom, Robat Karim, Rudsar, Shahriar, Shiraz, Tehran, Yazd, and Zabol.

One Khoy resident said: “I salute your dignity and honor. I have thousands of words to say from my heart. The soul of MEK founders and all the martyrs is happy and in peace. MEK cannot be destroyed. We will stand until the end and defend this Resistance.”

This growing support for the MEK has forced the regime to increase its demonization campaign against the group, proving that the MEK is the only force capable of overthrowing the regime.

Maryam Rajavi said in her speech that the Free Iran Summit was “the voice of the Iranian people’s 40-year Resistance against religious dictatorship and fascism and for freedom and democracy” and of the “largest, the longest-standing, most sophisticated, and most serious organized resistance in Iran’s history.”
