As Iran’s death toll of the novel coronavirus climbs daily, government-linked profiteers deceived a significant number of citizens who look for a precautionary substance. In this context, a resident of Tabriz, a major city in northwestern Iran, provided a shocking report about the impact of this forgery.

“In Sina hospital, eight persons have died of fake methanol poisoning,” the source said. He also mentioned the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC)’s role in presenting the fabricated alcohol as a medicine against the coronavirus.

“IRGC agents mix industrial alcohol with bleach to make a white color fluid. They sell it to the people as medical alcohol in free markets and pharmacies. Subsequently, citizens, who don’t have information, buy and use this substance that causes their death,” the Tabrizi resident added.

Notably, stats say that thousands of people have been poisoned with this fabricated fluid and hundreds have died across the country so far. Poor people fell victim to IRGC’s profiteering trade while they were searching for a solution. However, this “medicine” resulted in painful disasters in the society and users bore damages in their livers and kidneys as well as blindness in several cases.

Earlier, on March 16, several medical science officials released moving stats. In Ardebil, the center of West Azerbaijan province, officials of the Medical Science University announced, “The number of those who have lost their lives from using alcohol surpassed 19 in Ardebil. Also, 180 individuals have referred to hospitals due to using alcohol and poisoning. Some 79 of them are under supervision in dialyzing, nerves, and special sections.”

“Additionally, several of these patients lost their consciousness and are in a coma. A number have lost their eyesight.”

In Isfahan city, the center of Isfahan province, the head of the Medical Science University acknowledged that “Seven people are dead due to using alcohol” in this city.

In Tabriz, the center of East Azerbaijan province, the director of Sina hospital declared, “In ‘recent days,’ 98 persons have referred to Sina hospital given poisoning with industrial alcohol. Twelve of these people lost their lives and 16 others have been hospitalized in the ICU. Six bedridden people in the ICU suffer from severe harms and are in critical condition.”

In Ahvaz, the center of Khuzestan province, the spokesperson of Medical Science University announced, “In the last six days, medical centers admitted 583 cases of poisoning with fake alcoholic drinks in Khuzestan province, mostly in Ahvaz. Unfortunately, 47 persons from this number lost their lives.”

In Fars province, on March 17, emergency chief Mohammad Javad Moradian said, “Regrettably, the number of people who referred to the province’s medical centers due to symptoms of alcoholic poisoning surpassed 361, and 44 of them died in the province.” He has previously reckoned, “The lack of disinfecting materials and rumors over drinking alcohol to prevent infection with the coronavirus are the reasons for this [tragedy].”

Notably, 106 people have lost their lives using fabricated alcohol across the country, according to official stats on March 13. However, like many other official figures in Iran, it is predicted that the real stats are much higher, and the ayatollahs have kept the public opinion in the dark.
