BBC 4 Fake News on Main Iranian Opposition the MEK

BBC fake news about MEK

Iranian regime’s campaign against the MEK reached new heights at the beginning of this month. A concerted effort of fake-news, biased press articles, and over-activation of agents missioned with the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) is witnessed especially during the last ten days.

Last weekend a twit by French Presidency’s Secretary-General, Alexis Kohler, was act number one. Mr. Kohler had apparently tweeted that France had decided to limit the presence of Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK) members in France in a bid to pressure Tehran to stop its measures to back off from the JCPOA. Iran has been taking gradual steps towards quitting the nuclear deal made in 2015 with the 5+1 to curb its nuclear program in return for concessions by the West.

It was however not clear how giving concessions to Tehran by limiting its opponents in France could put pressure on Iran for bringing him back to the negotiating table?

Needless to say, the tweet was a fake as the French presidency told AFP that the said twitter account did not belong to Mr. Kohler, and then, he never had a twitter account!

But before the AFP dispatch, a series of websites belonging to the MOIS had diffused the fake-news over the net. Extra-territorial agents were the first to jump on the issue.

When the whole scheme backfired, a known MOIS agent in charge of the diffusion changed the tone. In an interview with a Farsi language television, the agent who is based in the UK claimed that rightist circles in the West or even in Iran had fabricated the news to prevent a rapprochement between France and Iran! He did not bother to explain that the first one to have announced the same fake news was no other than himself.

Needless to say, the MEK and the NCRI revealed the true nature of the agent in a lengthy press release, which was read in full in the same news outlet.

MOIS agents in Albania were the next to enter the play. A couple of those agents were quick to be quoted by BBC world who had been trying to put a new spin into the old allegations diffused by MOIS agents against the MEK in Albania. The BBC had again gone to lengths interviewing MOIS agents posing as former MEK members without anything from the MEK. The Iranian Resistance replied in a few hours from the broadcast through a statement of the NCRI’s Security and Counter-terrorism Committee. It revealed the true reasons for the enhanced activity of the MOIS:

“The continuing uprisings in Iraq and Lebanon have undermined the strategic depth and one of the strategic pillars of the ruling theocracy ruling Iran. Intensifying international sanctions, in particular against the regime’s supreme leader and his inner circle, coupled with the rise in the Iranian people’s protests and the Resistance Units’ activities not only highlight the reality that time is rapidly running out on the religious fascism ruling Iran, but also pose an unprecedented challenge to its survival.

Under such circumstances, the mullahs have stepped up their terrorist activities and stepped up their campaign of demonization against the Iranian Resistance and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in order to make it appears as though that there is no alternative to their regime and that the West is better served by continuing the policy of appeasement. The religious dictatorship’s desperation cloaked under the disgraced banner of “former PMOI members,” this time through Radio BBC 4 and the World Service, represents one such effort.”
