Tehran, Iran, Aug. 07 – Iran’s hardline-dominated Majlis, or Parliament, reappointed on Tuesday Ibrahim Azizi as a member of the 12-man Guardians Council.
The GC, the religious theocracys highest vetting organ, is made up of six senior clerics and six judges who must all have the backing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Azizi was approved by the Majlis to stay on in the GC as one of its six judges. He received 144 of the 236 ballots, state media reported.
On 22 July, Majlis appointed Mohsen Ismaeili and Hossein-Ali Amiri as judges of the GC.
Radical cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, a close aide to Khamenei, heads the Guardians Council.
