Tehran, Iran, Jan. 22 – Iran’s former President Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday that the European Union had attempted to negatively influence the case of the Islamic Republic’s nuclear activities.

Rafsanjani, who currently chairs the State Expediency Council, told reporters in the city of Mashad, northeast Iran, that Iranian officials had to be vigilant when faced with the EU action.

He expressed concern over “the move Europeans have recently launched with regards to Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities”, and said that Tehran must not allow the nuclear issue to be led into a path that it was unable to control.

“It seems that the West had taken the nuclear issue on an incorrect path, and we must be careful not to fall in the path where we cannot control the argument”, he was quoted as saying by the state-run ILNA news agency.

“We should think of new plans in order to solve the nuclear issue and to pass the current situation”, he said.
