London, Feb. 23 – A Gallup poll found that most Americans believe Iran to be their “greatest enemy”.

The poll conducted inside the United States by telephone between February 6 and 9 from a selection of 1,002 national adults aged 18 and older had a three percent maximum margin of error.

Thirty one percent of participants said that Iran was their greatest enemy, according to Gallup’s annual World Affairs survey.

At second place was Iraq with 22 percent of the votes, third was North Korea with 15 percent, and forth was China with 10 percent.

Gallup said that the poll marked the first time that Iran had topped the list as the United States’ greatest enemy, adding that in previous years, Iraq or North Korea had ranked first.

Republicans are more likely than Democrats, and men are more likely than women, to say Iran is the country’s greatest enemy, it found.

In 2005, only 14 percent of Americans said that they believed Iran to be their greatest enemy.
