Tehran, Iran, Mar. 12 – Iran is no longer considering a Russian proposal aimed at resolving the international standoff over its suspected nuclear weapons program, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told reporters on Sunday.

“The Russian proposal is no longer on our agenda”, Asefi said in comments that were aired on state television.

“We are awaiting the results of the process of the United Nations Security Council”, he said.

The International Atomic Energy Agency referred Tehran to the Security Council on Wednesday after it resumed uranium enrichment at its nuclear installation in Natanz.

“The circumstances have changed”, the spokesman said.

Moscow’s proposal involved Iran carrying out enrichment exclusively on Russia soil under a strict international monitoring regime.
