London, Mar. 29 – United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan urged Iran on Tuesday to comply with the demands of the International Atomic Energy Agency over its suspected nuclear weapons program.

“I think the Iranians will have to heed the advice of Mr. ElBaradei and convince the international community that their intention is only for peaceful uses of nuclear energy”, Annan told reporters in New York.

IAEA director general Mohamed ElBaradei has called on Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities which could lead to the development of a nuclear bomb.

“I think the [Security”> Council itself is very much engaged in this and is fully seized of the matter. But there are lots of technical aspects of the issue, which the atomic agency should continue to deal with”, Annan said.
