Tehran, Iran, Jul. 02 Irans Foreign Ministry rejected a deadline by the Group of Eight (G8) countries to reply to a European drafted offer aimed at breaking the international impasse over Tehrans sensitive nuclear activities.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi told reporters in Tehran that Iran would give its answer by August 22.
The G8 had issued a Presidential Statement demanding Tehran response to the package of incentives it had been offered by the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany by Wednesday.
We will probably finish studying the package by August 22 and will then announce our position, Asefi said, adding that the EU had to be thankful to Tehran for taking time to carefully examine the offer.
Setting a deadline is not on the agenda and will not help resolve the matter, he said.
He added that the Secretary General of Irans Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani would meet EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana in a European capital on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
The P5+1 have offered Tehran trade and technology incentives in return for it to suspend its uranium enrichment program.
