Ahwaz, Iran, Jul. 31 – A man was flogged in public in the south-western town of Ramhormoz for stealing a motorbike.

The man, only identified by his initials M. Kh., received 70 lashes in Azadi Square on Wednesday, according to the local state-run daily Asr Karoon.

He was flogged in the presence of judicial officials, the daily reported.

Ramhormoz is situated in the Arab-dominated province of Khuzestan which has been the scene of unremitting anti-government protests since early 2005.
