Tehran, Iran, Aug. 11 – Iran demanded that United States-led forces leave Iraq, after a suicide bomber blew himself up close to a revered Shiite shrine in the city of Najaf killing at least 35 people.

“The only way to create security in Iraq is to end the occupation and for foreigners to leave the country since until now they have failed to bring about security to Iraq”, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quoted as saying by the state-run news agency ISNA on Thursday.

The attack occurred on Thursday at a police checkpoint near the resting place of Imam Ali.
