ImageTEHRAN, April 17 (UPI) — The world's only "nuclear criminal" is the United States, the leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran said Saturday.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior aide to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, read the ayatollah's message to the Tehran disarmament conference that opened on Saturday, Iran's Press TV reported.

"The one and only nuclear criminal of the world now falsely claims to be fighting the spread of nuclear weapons but has definitely not taken and will not take any serious action regarding the issue," the message said.

"There is only one government that has committed nuclear crime and that is the government of the U.S., which launched nuclear attacks against the innocent Japanese people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in an inhumane asymmetrical war," it said.

RIA Novosti said the conference was attended by representatives from 60 countries, including China, Russia, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey and France.
