John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif

By Pooya Stone

Donald Trump tweeted on Monday morning that former Secretary of State John Kerry could have violated the Logan Act over his talks with Iran.

The tweet was sent after current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the US was ending waivers for sanctions on Iranian oil in order to ratchet up economic pressure on Iran.

In the early 2010s, relations between Iran and the European Union were strained because of the Iranian nuclear programme. In 2015, a solution was found in the form of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a binding agreement between the United Nations, the EU, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, and Iran.

At the end of their meeting in France, the G7 Foreign Ministers issued a final joint communique, insisting on their deep concern over Iran’s “continuing support for terrorist organizations and armed militias.”

At the end of their meeting in St. Malo held on 5th and 6th of April, in their communique, the G7 countries said they are determined to prevent Iran from reaching a nuclear weapon and asked UN member states to make voluntary contributions to the IAEA to ensure it has the resources necessary to fulfill this vital role.

EU countries call on UN to investigate Iran missile programme

By Pooya Stone

Britain, France and Germany have accused Iran of developing missile technology in violation of UN resolution, following recent activities, and called for a full UN report in a letter sent to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday.

The three countries said that Iran’s launch of a space vehicle and unveiling of two new ballistic missiles in February are part of a "trend of increased activity inconsistent" with UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which was adopted just after the signing of the 2015 nuclear deal, more formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
