The US warned European banks, investors and businesses on Wednesday against using the special purpose vehicle (INSTEX) that Europe has created to bypass US sanctions on Iran by trading in Euros as opposed to the dollar.

Tim Morrison, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Weapons of Mass Destruction and Biodefense, said: "If you are a bank, an investor, an insurer or other business in Europe you should know that getting involved in the … Special Purpose Vehicle is a very poor business decision."

Iran Focus

London, 07 May - There have been mixed reactions to the announcement by US National Security Advisor John Bolton that Washington deployed an aircraft carrier group and a bomber task force to the Middle East in order to counter the Iranian threat, but US allies in the region have been very supportive of the measure.

Arabian media reported that the US had deployed the aircraft carrier group USS Abraham Lincoln and an air strike force because of Iranian threats to "close the Strait of Hormuz" and prevent oil shipments travelling through the Gulf.

London, 29 April - United States President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe both expressed their commitment to eliminating all oil exports from Iran, a top U.S. diplomat official has said.

U.S. Ambassador to Japan William Hagerty on April 27 told reporters in a call that Trump and Abe also discussed a "desire to see Iran change its path and seek a more peaceful course forward."

Iran will soon partially resume parts of its nuclear program that were banned under the 2015 nuclear deal or Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), despite still being a party to the deal, according to state-run media.

Iranian state TV reported Monday that these activities are banned under articles 26 and 36 of the JCPOA, but Iran is “not planning to withdraw from the nuclear deal” at present, according to an official close to the JCPOA Supervisory Board.

Donald Trump tweeted on Monday morning that former Secretary of State John Kerry could have violated the Logan Act over his talks with Iran.

The tweet was sent after current Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the US was ending waivers for sanctions on Iranian oil in order to ratchet up economic pressure on Iran.
