Tehran, Jun. 12 – From the Grapevine…

Reports from Tehran indicate that following the fortieth day of Neda Agha Soltan’s murder last year, hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent two emissaries to her parent’s home with flowers and pastries.

The two told the family that since Neda’s father is retiring soon, he can signed up for any job at any government agency and receive a full salary. They also asked whether Neda’s parents would allow Ahmadinejad to visit them.

Neda’s father reportedly replied that he is comfortable with his current pension and that they could not receive the “killer” of their daughter.

Neda, a 26-year-old student, whose fatal shooting by security forces during a peaceful rally in Tehran on 20 June 2009 was captured on film and shocked the world, has become a symbol of the opposition movement.

Officials and state media have unsuccessfully attempted to convince the population that she was murdered by the opposition with the support of Western intelligence services.
