Tehran, Jun. 15 – A handwritten statement has been distributed widely in Tehran University urging students to gather on 20 June at the intersection of Khosravi and Salehi streets, where Neda Agha Soltan was killed by security forces last year, to pay tribute to her and others killed on that day.
The statement was signed: “Committee to Honour the Martyrs of 20 June”.
Neda, a 26-year-old student, whose fatal shooting by security forces during a peaceful rally in Tehran on 20 June 2009 was captured on film and shocked the world, became a symbol of the opposition movement.
Officials and state media have unsuccessfully attempted to convince the population that she was murdered by the opposition with the support of Western intelligence services.
