Four female political prisoners were brutally attacked by regular inmates, who were incited by prison officials, in Qarchak Prison, also known as Shahr-e Ray Prison, in Iran, on Monday, July 29 at about 7 pm.

One of the prisoners who attacked Yasaman Ariani, Neda Naji, Atefeh Rangriz, and Sepideh Qolian, had recently been released from a mental hospital and was referred to in some reports as “deranged”.

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it has "demolished" a network of all-female "western-style" parties in Hamadan, western Iran.

The IRGC forces in Hamadan, which is the ancient city of Ecbatana, did not divulge the exact location of the parties, the numbers of guests arrested, or what has happened to those still held in prison. They only said that 20 of the detainees were released after being disciplined, lectured, and guided to the "right path”. It is not known whether disciplined in this case refers to a warning or some sort of corporal punishment.

Women in Iran will no longer be allowed to travel by plane if they are “improperly veiled”, according to an announcement by Hassan Mehri, commander of Iran’s Airport Police, who said that these new instructions will soon be implemented.

According to a transcript by the state-run ISNA news agency on July 1, he said: “We have received official instructions on dealing with women who remove their veil and Judiciary officials will also support the police in this regard. Police officers will certainly deal with cases where people promote western styles by what they wear. It is possible that we prevent the person from travelling. We will file legal cases against these people and hand them over to judiciary officials.”

Two women were hanged at dawn on Tuesday in Iran, according to an informed source, bringing the total number of women executed under the supposed moderate President Hassan Rouhani to at least 93 since he took office in 2013.

The two women who were hanged at the Central Prison of Urmia on July 23 have been identified as Arasteh Ranjbar and Nazdar Vatankhah.
