London, May 27 – United States-led forces in Iraq have arrested at least two “terrorists” working for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in two separate raids since Friday, the Coalition announced.

“Iraqi and Coalition Forces detained one suspected terrorist while targeting a terrorist cell leader Friday morning during raids in Sadr City”, the Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF-I) said in a statement.

“The individual detained during the raid is closely linked to a suspected leader in a secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training”, the MNF-I said.

“Intelligence reports indicate the individual targeted is suspected of having direct ties to the leader of the EFP network as well as acting as a proxy for an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps officer”, it added.

“These rogue militia elements have no respect for the peace of Iraq”, said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. “We will continue to track them and diminish their ability to attack the Iraqi people and disrupt the progress of the country”.

On Saturday, Iraqi and Coalition troops detained one “suspected terrorist cell leader” and killed at least five “terrorists” during raids in the Baghdad slum Sadr City.

“The individual detained during the raid is believed to be the suspected leader in a secret cell terrorist network known for facilitating the transport of weapons and explosively formed penetrators, or EFPs, from Iran to Iraq, as well as bringing militants from Iraq to Iran for terrorist training”, the MNF-I said.

“Intelligence reports indicate the individual detained is suspected of having direct ties to a senior leader of a significant EFP network as well as acting as a proxy for an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps officer”, it added.
