DOHA, Qatar, Dec. 2 (UPI) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says Israel is an “enemy” created to “penetrate the heart of Muslim land.”

The remarks were reported by The Jerusalem Post, quoting the official Islamic Republic News Agency.

Describing Israel as a “threat” that is “on the verge of disappearing,” Ahmadinejad told Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, “As everybody knows, the Zionist regime was created to establish dominion of arrogant states over the region and to enable the enemy to penetrate the heart of Muslim land.”

The two leaders were meeting for talks in Qatar.

Haniyeh, a senior Hamas leader, praised Iran’s support of the Palestinian cause.

“The Intifada (uprising) of the Palestinian nation will continue until the cause of the Palestinians is materialized and Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) is liberated,” Haniyeh said.

“There is no doubt the Palestinian nation and Muslims as a whole will emerge victorious,” Ahmadinejad said.
