WASHINGTON – US President George W. Bush on Wednesday accused Damascus and Tehran of ties to terrorism, and told Iranians: “As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you.”

“We expect the Syrian government to end all support for terror and open the door to freedom,” Bush said in his annual State of the Union address to a joint session of the US Congress and a television audience of millions.

“Today, Iran remains the world’s primary state sponsor of terror – pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom they seek and deserve,” said the US president.

He said Washington was working with Britain, France and Germany to convince Tehran to give up its nuclear programs, and added: “To the Iranian people, I say tonight: As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you.”
