Tehran, Iran, Jan. 26 – Iran’s intelligence chief accused Britain on Thursday of involvement in Tuesday’s twin bombings that left nine people dead in the south-western city of Ahwaz.

Radical Shiite cleric Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ezhei, who heads the Islamic Republic’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), told reporters in the city of Qom that there was “no doubt” that Britain was among the countries complicit in the attacks.

“There is no doubt that Britain is among the foreign currents that had a hand in the explosions in Ahwaz”, Ezhei said.

“The enemy is now seeking to make Iranian border cities insecure by sowing the seeds of discord among various ethnic and tribal groups in Iran”, he added.

The intelligence minister said that MOIS agents had uncovered clues about the culprits, adding that the ministry would publish the result of their investigation as soon as it was completed.

A string of top Iranian officials including hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have accused Britain of being behind the bombings.

London has denied any involvement and called the charges “ludicrous”.
