Tehran, Iran, Feb. 06 – Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator announced on Monday that United Nations inspectors would come to the Islamic Republic in the coming days to oversee the resumption of uranium enrichment after the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency reported Iran to the Security Council.

Ali Larijani, Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council, told reporters on the sidelines of a closed-door Majlis (Parliament) session discussing Tehran’s response to the decision to report it to the Security Council that the Islamic Republic was adamant to press ahead with its nuclear program. Obtaining nuclear capabilities was not a goal that Tehran could abandon, he said.

“We will not back down on the issue of defending our rights”, Larijani said.

Asked about when Iran would begin uranium enrichment, he said, “We announced this timeframe to the IAEA in a letter. Inspectors must come to Iran for this to take place and this will happen in the next few days”.

He also said that Iran’s nuclear negotiations team had not changed.

Pointing to Western fears of a rise in oil prices if the Security Council ordered sanctions against Tehran, Larijani said, “In reality we should not be concerned about such action”.
