France warns Iran of “sanctions logic”

-

Xinhua: French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy on Thursday warned Iran on a possible “sanctions logic” if Teheran continued to refuse to cooperate with the United Nations on its nuclear program. PARIS, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) — French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy on Thursday warned Iran on a possible “sanctions logic” if Teheran continued to refuse to cooperate with the United Nations on its nuclear program.

“Iranians must realize that, either they cooperate, or we enter into sanctions logic,” Douste-Blazy declared on France International Radio, alluding to a report on Iran by Mohammed El Baradei, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)due on Feb. 21.

Resolution 1737 of the UN Security Council imposes limited trade sanctions on Iran last December for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment. The council gave 60 days to the country to conform to the requirement, or face the adoption of new penalties.

“Iran does not like being isolated on the economic front,” Douste-Blazy added, revealing that “for the first time in a longtime a debate is taking place in Iran” on the economic sanctions by the international community.

“Diplomatic path” was the “only solution” to resolve the Iranian nuclear crisis, and “any resort to violence was bound to fail,” Douste-Blazy said in response to the possible American military strikes against Iranian nuclear sites.
