Tehran, Iran, Mar. 08 Irans former President Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Wednesday that the United States was faced with defeat in the Middle East.
Addressing an open session of the Assembly of Experts, an exclusively clerical body that designates the countrys all-powerful Supreme Leader, Rafsanjani called for unity among the ruling theocracys various factions.
We must pursue our [nuclear”> plans on the basis of our desired goals to strengthen internal unity, Rafsanjani said, pointing out that this should be done regardless of whether Iran is referred to the United Nations Security Council or not.
With the conditions that have been brought about for us over the nuclear issue it is evermore important to pay attention to this point.
Today, Iran is far stronger in the region and the world than it was before, he said.
He urged the various factions of power to unite as in the early days of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Such an atmosphere needs to be created in the country to fight Americas evil plan for the Middle East. Factions and groups interests must become secondary to the interests of the people and the revolution.
Rafsanjani said that Washington was pursuing a sinister plan in the greater Middle East encompassing 22 Arab countries and four non-Arab countries Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Israel.
He said that the U.S. had been defeated in Iraq and Afghanistan, adding that Washington had been unsuccessful in imposing its own version of democracy onto the two states. If America does not find a solution for its problems in these two countries, its presence in these countries will become a disaster for the U.S..
He said that America would be defeated in its campaign against the Islamic Republic.
